Well, you know what, for my first year here, I thought it was a good year. I hope you have enjoyed the curling season, as much as I have enjoyed being a part of the Vernon Curling Club. My staff worked real hard this year to help to make things go as smooth as possible. And as always, there is room for improvement. All in all it was a successful year and I hope you feel the same and I am really looking forward to coming back next year.
We hosted the finals of our Curling Club Championships on arena ice at the Wesbild Centre (Multiplex) on Thursday March 20th. Results were as follows:
SuperLeague – Jim Cotter defeated Jamie Sexton
Mens – Kevin Geistlinger defeated Ron McDougall
Ladies – Shirley Vedan defeated Sonja Gaudet
Mixed – Wayne Laface defeated Dan West

Congratulations to Norm Geistlinger who was the winner of the TV Raffle we held throughout the season. It was such a great success that we plan to do it again next season.
I have been a part of many curling championships. I may be a little biased but this is one of the finest I have ever been a part of. The arena and the Patch were set up fantastically. All the volunteers, many of whom are members of the VCC, did a spectacular job of making this one of the best curling events. The energy in the building while the curling was taking place was supreme. The shot making by the ladies was as good as I've ever seen. I'd like to thank my ice crew for providing the ladies the ability to make these great shots. Kudos to the organizing committee and their army of volunteers. I hope they enjoyed their experience as much as I did. As noted in the local newspaper, we are now on the World Map, and the CCA hopes to return. The television numbers were a record and the whole City of Vernon should be proud of what has been accomplished.
My highlight of the week was the 9th end of the Final when it looked like it was all over for China. The crowd sang O Canada loudly and proudly. It was an unbelievable feeling and made me proud to be Canadian. That was ENTERTAINMENT at its finest!
